The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler’s Wife, adapted from the 2003 best-seller by Audrey Niffenegger, reminds me very much of another similar movie, The Lake House, where couples are separated by time. A note for all movie goers: Before you enter the theatre to watch this movie, you should actually go in with the mind that it’s not going to be exactly the same as the novel. The novel is able to play around with words and let your brain fill in the scenes, but, a movie gives you no space for imagination.

Henry (Eric Bana) has a genetic disorder, which enables him to travel through time without warning. He travels into the future and finds his love, Clare (Rachel McAdams). He can jump out of the present and suddenly appear somewhere in the future… naked. It is rather strange that he searches frantically for cover and get some clothes on.

This movie touches our hearts with the unbreakable love between Henry and Clare. Although Henry disappears without warning, which leaves Clare eventually despaired and helpless, the couple shows understanding and willingness to wait for each other.

The movie is able to move audience with the main characters’ feelings, and is successful in creating romantic scenes. Although it’s a loving story between Henry and Clare, Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams can create more sparks with greater chemistry, and a few loop holes should be covered or jump scenes should be clearer to make the movie a better one.

Overall, it’s a movie worth watching. Although there is much criticism, there are praises and compliments. Every movie has their supporters and boo-ers, so it is really up to you to decide how many stars this movie is worth.
